Created in September 2004, the UTSA Legislative Scholars Program, commonly known as the McClendon Legislative Scholars Program, is a collaborative initiative between State Representative Ruth Jones McClendon and the University of Texas at San Antonio. Coordinated by the UTSA Institute for Law and Public Affairs within UTSA’s Honors College, the McClendon Scholars spend the legislative session working as legislative assistants in the State Capitol offices of members of the Texas House of Representatives. These highly-qualified students bring diverse backgrounds, expertise, and interests to the program.
